There are trades that build buildings, and there are others that silently support everyday life. The bricklayer belongs to this second category. His work appears before us every day —walls, sidewalks, houses, columns, rooftops— and yet we rarely really look at the person who built them.
This exhibition is born from that observation: the existence of the bricklayer as a parallel universe because it mixes something social, human, and almost spiritual: bricklayers literally raise the physical world we inhabit, but remain invisible.
A world with its own codes, times, languages, and hierarchies. A territory where the body learns before words; where knowledge passes from hand to hand, from master to apprentice, like a living inheritance made of mixture, dust, fatigue, and precision.
Working under the brutal sun, unexpected rain, or the cold of early morning is part of an almost invisible routine for those who later inhabit those finished spaces. The bricklayer transforms heavy materials into shelter, geometry, and permanence. His craft requires physical endurance, spatial intuition, and a particular kind of practical intelligence that rarely receives cultural or poetic recognition.
“Parallel Universe” seeks to pause the gaze on these everyday gestures: the hands hardened by lime, the improvised tools, the conversations on the site, the minimal pause to eat, the verticality of a newly born wall, the silent learning between generations. Each image records a particular relationship between order and chaos, strength and fragility, learning and endurance.
More than documenting, this exhibition tries to honor.
To honor the dignity of a fundamental profession.
To honor the involuntary beauty that exists within hard work.
To honor those who build the world while others simply inhabit it.
Hay oficios que construyen edificios, y hay otros que sostienen silenciosamente la vida cotidiana. El albañil pertenece a esta segunda categoría. Su trabajo aparece frente a nosotros todos los días —muros, banquetas, casas, columnas, azoteas— y sin embargo pocas veces miramos realmente a quien las levantó.
Esta exposición nace desde esa observación: la existencia del albañil como un universo paralelo porque mezcla algo social, humano y casi espiritual: los albañiles literalmente levantan el mundo físico que habitamos, pero permanecen invisibles.
Un mundo con sus propios códigos, tiempos, lenguajes y jerarquías. Un territorio donde el cuerpo aprende antes que las palabras; donde el conocimiento pasa de mano en mano, del maestro al aprendiz, como una herencia viva hecha de mezcla, polvo, cansancio y precisión.
Trabajar bajo el sol brutal, la lluvia inesperada o el frío de la madrugada forma parte de una rutina casi invisible para quienes habitan después esos espacios terminados. El albañil transforma materiales pesados en refugio, geometría y permanencia. Su oficio exige resistencia física, intuición espacial y una forma particular de inteligencia práctica que rara vez recibe reconocimiento cultural o poético.
“Universo Paralelo” busca detener la mirada sobre esos gestos cotidianos: las manos endurecidas por la cal, las herramientas improvisadas, las conversaciones en la obra, la pausa mínima para comer, la verticalidad de un muro recién nacido, el aprendizaje silencioso entre generaciones. Cada imagen registra una relación particular entre orden y caos, fuerza y fragilidad, aprendizaje y resistencia.
Más que documentar, esta muestra intenta honrar.
Honrar la dignidad de un oficio fundamental.
Honrar la belleza involuntaria que existe dentro del trabajo duro.
Honrar a quienes construyen el mundo mientras otros simplemente lo habitan.
